Josie de Guzman

Josie de Guzman was born in New York City and raised in Puerto Rico, where her love for Theatre began. She started at the Public Theatre in NYC, playing a teenager in the multi-Tony nominated Runaways, directed by Liz Swados, and Lullabye & Goodnight, directed by Joe Papp. She appeared on Broadway in Carmelina, Nick & Nora, and was nominated for the Tony Award as ‘Maria’ in the first Broadway revival of West Side Story, where she had the unsurpassed experience of working closely with Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins and Jerry Freedman in creating a new production of that classic. She received a second Tony nomination for her performance as Sarah Brown in the acclaimed revival of Guys & Dolls, directed by Jerry Zaks. She has appeared frequently in productions Off Broadway, across the country, and on tour throughout Europe. Her night club and concert work has been seen in New York, at Lincoln Center, in Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, with the Houston Symphony, and frequently in San Juan.

Her film and television work is extensive, and I am especially proud to have played a wide variety of roles at the Alley in Houston in plays by Stoppard, Shakespeare, Miller, Ayckbourn, Chekhov, Sharr White, Tracy Letts, Jennifer Haley, Sarah Ruhl, and others, and loved collaborating with directors John Rando, Jackson Gay, René Buch, David Cromer, Gregory Boyd and Melia Bensussen. In addition to the Tony Awards, she has been nominated for the Connecticut Critics Circle award, winning for my work as Anna in The King and I.

Her recordings include the Grammy-winning Guys and Dolls OCR , Carmelina, Runaways, and two solo albums: Lullabies for Everyone and Nanas Para Todos – all available on iTunes and Spotify.
