BIO

Joseph W. Ritsch Joseph is a performer/playwright/director/designer/choreographer from NYC who relocated to Baltimore in September of 2008 to pursue his MFA in Theatre at Towson University. He holds a BA in Theater & Dance from The School of Performing Arts at The University of Maine, and completed his initial graduate studies in acting at the Professional Program at Playwright's Horizons in NYC. In 1994, Joseph became a principal ensemble member with Jane Comfort and Company, one of the industry’s premiere movement theatre ensembles. With Jane and the company he has toured the US on two national tours as well as a tour to Paris, France. In Baltimore his work has been seen at Baltimore Theatre Project, The Loft, and Theatro 101 (@ Mobtown Theatre) and Center Stage. Joseph is the Associate Director of Iron Crow Theatre and portrayed Hedwig in the 2010 Iron Crow production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Joseph’s Apartment 213 was named by City Paper as one of the Top 10 productions of the Baltimore 2010-2011 Professional Theatre Season. The project was developed at the prestigious WordBRIDGE Playwrights Lab June 2010. Joseph’s most recent work includes choreography for the Towson production of RENT and assistant directing Snow Falling on Cedars at Center Stage, and direction of the critically acclaimed Iron Crow production of Brad Fraser’s Love and Human Remains. Upcoming projects include direction on I Want To Be A Gay Icon and playing Richard in The Soldier Dreams, both with Iron Crow Theatre and Assistant Director and Choreographer on You Can't Take It With You at Everyman Theatre.

More than 450 business and arts leaders were on hand on Saturday, March 23rd for the Howard County Arts Council's 22nd Annual Celebration of the Arts in Howard County. Held at Howard Community College's Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center in Columbia, this year's benefit gala netted approximately $73,000 with an additional $92,302 in donated goods and services in support of the arts in Howard County.
