Stars of stage and screen, beloved actors from The Old Globe's history, local dignitaries, internationally renowned scholars, andother celebrities came together at The Old Globe for Shakespeare in America on Saturday evening, June 4. This special one-night-only event featured a constellation of luminaries reading selections from Shakespeare and other material, curated and hosted by the gifted writer/director Jeremy McCarter and our country's most eminent Shakespeare scholar, James Shapiro. Old Globe Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein introduced and directed the evening.

San Diego REPertory Theatre (San Diego REP) in partnership with the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) will present "In the Heights" by Quiara Alegria Hudes as the first production of the company's 38th season. The Tony and Grammy Award-winning production was conceived by and with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and the San Diego REP production is directed by Sam Woodhouse and starring Jai Rodriguez.

Nicholas Martin Named Associate Artist of The Old Globe
The Old Globe today named director Nicholas Martin an Associate Artist of The Old Globe. He is the 56th artist to receive the prestigious honor recognizing over half a century of his unique contributions to the institution both on and offstage. After making his acting debut in 1957 as the Fool in King Lear, Martin went on to appear on the Globe stage in 18 additional productions, including The Merry Wives of Windsor (1965), The School for Scandal (1989) and Hamlet (1960 and 1990). As a director, he helmed the Globe productions of Later Life, Full Gallop, Overtime, Macbeth and The Mask of Moriarty. The Old Globe is currently celebrating the 100th anniversary of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion with Martin's production of Shaw's masterwork, which runs through Feb. 17. Kopsho as Falstaff, Michael Phillip Thomas as Hotspur, Amber Bonasso as Lady Percy, John Herzog as Worchester, Jonathan McMurtry as Bardolph and John Tessmer as Northumberland. The cast also includes MiraCosta College theatre instructors Tracy Williams and Kelly Kissinger.

North Coast Repertory Theatre presents ACID TEST, based on the true story of Ram Dass, spiritual seeker, as he explores his life from the time of being Richard Alpert, a tenured Harvard psychology professor from a wealthy Jewish family, to meeting Timothy Leary and embarking on 377 LSD trips. He shares his adventures of traveling to India to meet his guru, Maharajji, to becoming an international lecturer on 'enlightenment' to his writing a book on conscious aging and having a stroke that paralyzes his right side. With humor and humility he illuminates his search for inner peace and lasting truth and sheds light on a new understanding of aging and death. Join him as he journeys from 'be here now' to 'still here' to 'be love'.
