Review: ONLY AN OCTAVE APART at Spoleto Festival USA
Starring Anthony Roth Costanzo and Justin Vivian Bond, ONLY AN OCTAVE demonstrates how much we've changed - and how much we haven't - since Carol Burnett and Beverly Sills first sang the song in 1976, one year before Spoleto arrived in Charleston. But what about 2011, when Taylor Mac strutted onstage and proclaimed, 'This is my festival bitches!'?
Review: ONLY AN OCTAVE APART, Wilton's Music Hall
“Keep it pretty, keep it shallow, keep it moving.” As well as being words that American cabaret singer Justin Vivian Bond (pronoun v) lives by, they go some way to sum up Only An Octave Apart, this eye-catching and pacy two-hander with Grammy-winning countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo.
BWW Review: ONLY AN OCTAVE APART at St. Ann's Warehouse
The combined talents of Bond and Costanzo compliment and increase the level of artistry and ability in each other. There’s a perfect balance and harmony between them. Both performers can comfortably transition from hysterical comedy to heartfelt emotions, make you laugh one moment and cry the next, but never lingering in one place too long.
Performances Added for Justin Vivian Bond & Anthony Roth Costanzo's ONLY AN OCTOVE APART
St. Ann’s Warehouse is making a momentous reopening to full-capacity audiences this fall with Only an Octave Apart, a theatrical concert in which two iconic performers, Justin Vivian Bond and Anthony Roth Costanzo, join forces, subverting distinctions between high and low and juxtaposing their vocal pitches, performance styles, repertoires, and degrees of camp.
