Theater in Quarantine debuts its most technically ambitious production to date on July 30 with The 7th Voyage of Egon Tichy, a slapstick science-fiction adventure adapted from Stanisław Lem's Star Diaries created with director Jon Levin and writer Josh Luxenberg (Sinking Ship's Drama Desk Nominated A Hunger Artist).

Athena Film Festival Announces Inaugural Alfred P. Sloan Development Grant Winner
The Athena Film Festival at Barnard College (AFF), a joint initiative of Barnard's Athena Center for Leadership Studies and the initiative Women and Hollywood, announced screenwriter Denise Meyers as its inaugural Alfred P. Sloan Athena List Development Grant winner. Meyers' Lucky 13 script was a 2016 Athena List finalist, and tells the incredible true story of the only all-female airbase in American history, powered by unforgettable women who came from all walks of life to play a significant role in the war effort, sacrificing everything to save the B-26 Marauder aircraft from the scrap heap before being unceremoniously disbanded to make room for male civilian pilots hoping to avoid the draft. As the winner of this grant, Meyers will receive $20,000 to help advance her script to the next stage of development. The Festival will host a reception and live script-reading on October 29 at Barnard College in New York City.
Netflix to Adapt Graphic Novel PASHMINA into an Original Animated Musical
Netflix today announced that it will adapt Nidhi Chanani's highly acclaimed, best-selling graphic novel Pashmina into an original CG animated musical with celebrated writer-director Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham), internationally renowned, decorated producer Ashok Amritraj, and Chadha's long-standing writing partner, Paul Mayeda Berges.

The Athena Film Festival (AFF) at Barnard College announced today its film slate, including opening night, closing night, and centerpiece films, as well as additional programming for the 2019 festival. The ninth annual festival, co-founded by the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College and Women and Hollywood, will take place February 28 to March 3, 2019, at Barnard College in New York City. AFF showcases films, television and content that tell the extraordinary stories of fierce and fearless female leaders from all walks of life. Stories of ambition, courage, and resilience amplify the voices of strong, bold women, curating a public discourse on gender equality, and changing the cultural conventions surrounding leadership.
Ethan Hawke Joins Cast of New Orleans Heist Film CUT THROAT CITY
It was announced today that Four-time Oscar®-nominated actor Ethan Hawke has signed on the New Orleans-set heist movie CUT THROAT CITY, directed by RZA (of the Wu Tang Clan). The film also stars Terrence Howard, Wesley Snipes, Eiza González, Kat Graham, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Joel David Moore, Isiah Washington, Keean Johnson, Sam Daly, Denzel Whitaker, Rob Morgan, Rich Paul, Demetrius Shipp Jr. and Shameik Moore. Well Go USA preemptively acquired North American rights earlier this year for the picture for a nationwide theatrical release in 2019. XYZ Films is handling international sales.
