Birth Place: NYC
Jon Koons has been dubbed “Renaissance Man” by the media. Having been on stage since the age of nine, Jon has appeared as an actor and singer on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in summer and regional theaters. He has also been seen in Feature Films, on Television and in Commercials.
Awarded the title “NYC’s Plum Craziest Performer”, Jon Koons is that rarest of entertainers, one who instantly develops a special rapport with his audience. Armed with virtually every variety skill, including magic, ventriloquism, stilt-walking, fire-eating, juggling, mime and more, Jon is a true Multi-Talent who’s quick wit and talent for improvisation keeps audiences amused and amazed. With experience ranging from Broadway, TV and Films to performances from Atlantic City to Kenya, whether performing on stage or interactively throughout the audience, Jon is the perfect choice to entertain for corporations, colleges, festivals, parties and events of every description. As his ebullient self, or as one of the dozens of characters he conjures up, with literally hundreds of costumes at hand, Jon will keep the audience laughing and dazzled with his high energy antics and impressive array of talents.
As a director and production stage manager, Jon has worked with numerous prestigious theater and opera companies. He also teaches theatrical and circus arts for educational organizations, schools and individuals. Jon’s contributions to the arts have been recognized in books such as Theatre World, Frantic Comedy, Reader’s Theatre: What It Is and How to Stage it, The Magic Catalog and others, as well as by the United States Congress and the State of New Jersey Senate and General Assembly.
Jon is the Artistic Director of The Open Book Theatre Company, New York City’s oldest established Reader’s Theatre company. TOB presents performances of mostly new, undiscovered and experimental plays, in addition to poetry readings, adaptations of classic and popular literature and themed events. The Open Book also operates arts-in-education programs, and an international playwriting competition.
A published author of both fiction and non-fiction, Jon’s children’s books, A Confused Hanukkah and Arthur And Guen: A Tale Of Young Camelot, remain popular. A Confused Hanukkah is currently in development in Hollywood as an animated feature to be called A Confused Holiday. Jon’s humorous science fiction novel, Willoughby’s Time & Space App and it’s sequel Who Kidnapped Willoughby, as well as various short story collections and even a magic how-to book, have all been well received.
