Review: IBARRA's Memorable Moments and Excesses
With the birth of a new theater company, Tanghalang Una Obra, whose creatives were closely associated with Gantimpala Theater Foundation, comes 'Ibarra,' a reworking of the latter’s yearly production of 'Kanser,' based on Dr. Jose Rizal’s first novel, 'Noli Me Tangere.' But this time, it presents the events from 'Kanser' from one point of view: that of the title role, essayed by multi-award-winning TV and film actor Piolo Pascual, in his professional theater debut.

The Aliw Awards Foundation, a pioneer in giving recognition to Filipino live entertainers in diverse categories, gave its top award, Entertainer of the Year, anew to international singer-actor Gerald Santos, who won the same prize in 2020. The 35th Aliw Awards were presented at the Manila Hotel Fiesta Pavilion on December 5.
The Aliw Awards Foundation, a pioneer in giving recognition to Filipino live entertainers in diverse categories, gave its top award, Entertainer of the Year, anew to international singer-actor Gerald Santos, who won the same prize in 2020. Recently announced to play the roles of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in the upcoming West End production of the Broadway smash 'Hamilton,' Christine Allado, who was recently seen in the role of Vanessa in West End's 'In The Heights,' graced the stage of the Maybank Performing Arts Theatre in her solo concert, titled 'Songs of a Lifetime,' earlier this month.

Instead, Salonga was joined by the new additions to the cast Jon Joven ("Miss Saigon"), Leo Tavarro Valdez ("Miss Saigon"), Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo ("Miss Saigon"), and Carla Guevara Laforteza ("Miss Saigon") who will perform with Salonga, Harris, and Zamora in the Manila leg of the concert set Wednesday, January 29, and Thursday, January 30, at 8 p.m. at Resorts World Manila's Newport Performing Arts Theatre.

Resorts World Manila (RWM) launched its annual "Grand Fiesta" and hosted a media appreciation night at Genting Club, Maxims Hotel Wednesday night. This year's "Grand Fiesta" highlights Las Vegas-based singer Lani Misalucha's pre-Christmas concert on Wednesday, November 28; and Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved Broadway musical "The King and I's" extended run until May 2013 - Philippine Musical Theater's favorite leading lady Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo was announced as replacement for Monique Wilson in the role of Anna Leonowens.
