Chesapeake College and the Phenomenal Animals Present MIASMA: A DIGITAL RADIO PLAY
How do you teach acting and improvisation while socially distanced? How does a college put on its spring production in a time of quarantine? The Phenomenal Animals have partnered with Chesapeake College's Peake Players to present Miasma, an new digital 'radio play' about three people sequestered on a sprawling ranch property at an undisclosed location somewhere on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Who are these people and why have they been separated from the rest of the world?

BWW Reviews: THE WHALE is a Thought Provoking, Well Acted Drama
Upon entering Hyde Park Theatre for a chick and a dude's current production of The Whale, you get several clues about the central character of Charlie. His apartment, designed by Michael B. Raiford, is absolutely disgusting. Pizza boxes and KFC buckets litter the floor, and the couch, which has seen better days, is propped up on cinder blocks. Between the set decoration and the title, one can guess that Charlie's going to be on the larger side, and he is. Thanks to an extraordinarily believable fat suit constructed by Kelly Ruiz, Charlie (Shanon Weaver) is a 600 pound man. But The Whale, which could easily be a play about a fat suit, has far more to it.

BWW Reviews: PEOPLE WILL TALK ABOUT YOU SOMETIMES Doesn't Say What It Means
There's no doubt that People Will Talk About You Sometimes has good intentions, something I applaud and have no intention to criticize. The world premiere play from Poison Apple Initiative tries to tackle the topic of suicide and is inspired by 4.48 Psychosis, a performance art exploration of depression written by Sarah Kane whose clinical depression ended in suicide.

BWW Reviews: Road Trip Tale MAD BEAT HIP AND GONE Is a Bumpy Road
Anyone who's ever been on a road trip knows that they are either incredible adventures or events you hope to never repeat. Strangely, the world premiere comedy Mad Beat Hip and Gone, written and directed by Austin's own Steven Dietz, falls somewhere in the middle. While there is much to love about the production, now playing at Zach's Topfer Theatre, overall it's a bit dull and not entirely memorable.
