Palo Alto Players continues its 91st season with the Peninsula premiere of' ALLEGIANCE. This powerful Broadway musical, inspired by the true-life experiences of TV/film actor and social media icon George Takei (Mr. Sulu on Star Trek), tells the story of one family's extraordinary journey during the Japanese American internment of World War II. The company has assembled an all-star cast of 20 local Bay Area artists under the direction of Vinh G. Nguyen to bring the story of ALLEGIANCE to the stage.

Elementary Schools Announced For OSKAR Tour

Bullying and gender stereotypes are issues youngsters deal with every day. Now, K-5 students around the Bay Area can explore these important issues in an engaging and creative way as TheatreWorks Silicon Valley brings its award-winning Oskar tour to Bay Area Elementary Schools. Developed in an effort to help today's youngest students develop the resiliency and strategies needed to cope with bullying at school, and to increase sensitivity and empathy, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley's Education program will present the West Coast Premiere of Oskar and the Big Bully Battle, Part 2 as well as Oskar and the Countless Costume Changes, written by award-winning playwrights Prince Gomolvilas and Matt Ackels. The Oskar tour runs March 2 - April 10, 2020, and will travel to schools in the South Bay, Peninsula, East Bay, and San Francisco (see list for specific schools). Multi-award winning Foothill Music Theatre will give Bay Area audiences their first look at the 2014 revised version of the acclaimed Broadway musical Side Show. This dazzling work, featuring music by Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls), and book/lyrics by Bill Russell (Pageant, Lucky Duck), was nominated for four 1998 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress. The 2014 revival, which incorporates a revised script and several new songs, received additional critical acclaim, was nominated for five Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Revival, and was awarded the 2015 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Musical. Side Show is based on the true story of Daisy and Violet Hilton, conjoined twins who rose from a sideshow attraction to become sensational vaudeville stars in the 1930s. Side Show will be directed by Milissa Carey, with musical direction by Dolores Duran-Cefalu, and choreography by Brett and CJ Blankenship and will playMarch 2 - 19, 2017 (press opening: March 3, 2017) with performances 7:30pm Thursdays, 8:00pm Fridays & Saturdays, and 2pm Sundays at the Lohman Theatre, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.
