Johnny Rodgers is an internationally-celebrated singer-songwriter, pianist, Broadway star, and recording artist who is described by Stephen Holden, from THE NEW YORK TIMES, as an entertainer "that can't be found anywhere else" with "fused elements of Billy Joel, Peter Allen and Johnny Mercer."
Johnny dazzles audiences with his enthusiastic mélange of Americana using his original songs like "Home To Mendocino", "One More Moment", and the tribute ballad "The Best Of You In Me" and favorites made popular by the likes of Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Bill Withers, and Elvis.
Johnny won the Billboard and The Great American Song contests and the ASCAP Foundation Award for his songwriting. He has earned the famed Nightlife, Bistro, and MAC awards for outstanding performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Los Angeles Ford Amphitheatre, and jazz clubs, performing Arts Centers and festivals. Johnny and his band are American Music Ambassadors on behalf of the U.S. State Department Cultural Affairs and tour around the world.
Liza Minnelli recognized Johnny's talent taking him on her world tour and then as featured singer, dancer, pianist, and songwriter in the Tony Award-winning Liza's At The Palace, which now appears on PBS television. Johnny co-wrote the featured song "I Would Never Leave You" and is included on the show's DVD release as well as the Grammy-nominated CD.
Legends of American Music, Vol 1 is Johnny Rodgers Band's latest album release featuring songs made famous by the likes of Louis Armstrong, Elvis Presley and Sam Cooke. Johnny's other recorded albums include his debut CD, Box of Photographs with five award-winning songs, Bound Together and Let's Make A Date which includes Johnny's original title track duet with Liza Minnelli. The parental tribute song "The Best Of You In Me" is available in a choral arrangement from Hal Leonard Publishing. In addition to Liza Minnelli, Johnny Rodgers has performed and/or recorded with Michael Feinstein, Randy Brecker, Tom Harrell, Stephen Schwartz, Susan Werner, Dave Koz, Clint Holmes, and Ann Hampton Callaway, among others and is featured on the recordings; The Maury Yeston Songbook, Hallways: The Songs of Carol Hall, and Jule Styne In Hollywood.
Johnny is also the Music Supervisor and song co-writer of Motherhood The Musical which debuted off-Broadway in 2010 and continues touring with growing accolades. Johnny received a Carbonell Award nomination for Best Musical Direction.
