Bryant Park presents Accordions AROUND THE WORLD
Accordions Around the World is a four-week series that brings over 100 accordionists, as well as bandoneon, bayan, concertina, and harmonium-players of different musical genres, to perform at Bryant Park. Accordion Picnics, each Wednesday between June 28 and July 19, spotlights 24 musicians at each performance and offers audiences the chance to experience the range of this often-overlooked instrument.

Lexington, KY—During his concession speech after losing the 1938 US Senate election, Kentucky Governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler paid tribute to his newly reelected rival. “I always thought Senator Barkley was indestructible,” he admitted, and at the time it would have been hard to argue otherwise. Alben Barkley had just secured his third term in the US Senate after seven consecutive terms representing Kentucky in the House, and he was on his way to an appointment as Harry S. Truman's vice president in 1949. His sole losing campaign had been a bid for Governor of Kentucky in 1928, but his habit of giving up to sixteen speeches a day and propensity for campaigning on horseback earned Barkley the nickname the “Iron Man” of politics.

University Press of Kentucky Releases A TASTE OF HISTORY
Kitchens serve as more than a place to prepare food; they are cornerstones of the home and family. Just as memories are passed down through stories shared around the stove, recipes preserve traditions and customs for future generations. Archivist Deirdre A. Scaggs and chef Andrew W. McGraw combine these two traditions in their new cookbook, The Historic Kentucky Kitchen: Traditional Recipes for Today's Cook, which the authors say “arose from a small recipe and a lot of curiosity.”
Red Fang Unveil First Leg of U.S. Fall Tour
After performances at Sasquatch! as well as major European festivals all summer long including Sonisphere, Download, Hellfest, Reload, Full Force, Open Air and Eistenaflug, RED FANG have announced the first leg of their fall U.S. tour will kick off October 9 on the west coast (see dates confirmed below). Before the fall run--which features support from Helms Alee, Dog Shredder and Gaytheist--RED FANG will head to Missoula, MT to headline the 12th annual TotalFest on Saturday, August 17.The Portland, OR-based group that NPR tagged as “a sleeker style of riff-heavy metal” will return this October with their third studio album WHALES AND LEECHES on Relapse Records.
