San Francisco Opera Cancels 2020 Summer Season
San Francisco Opera Tad and Dianne Taube General Director Matthew Shilvock announced today that the Company's 2020 Summer Season, scheduled to take place June 7a?"July 3 at the War Memorial Opera House, has been canceled. Ongoing developments in the global effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including orders by the City of San Francisco to shelter in place through at least May 3, as well as other state and federal travel restrictions and safety measures, prohibit the Company's ability to prepare, build, rehearse and perform this summer.
San Francisco Opera Guild To Honor John A. And Cynthia Fry Gunn
San Francisco Opera Guild will honor Bay Area philanthropists John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn at the sixth annual An Evening on the Stage on Wednesday, November 28. The gala dinner on the stage of the War Memorial Opera House is co-chaired by Kim Dempster and Linle J. Froeb. The set of composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer's holiday opera It's a Wonderful Life provides the magical backdrop for this year's event, when the Opera Guild's 2018 Crescendo Award will be presented to John Gunn, Chairman of San Francisco Opera's Board of Directors, and arts patron Cynthia Fry Gunn. Passionately committed to the art form and actively involved in the leadership of the Company, the Gunn's magnanimous support has set an extraordinary standard in the community.
San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley to Retire in July 2016
San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and San Francisco Opera Association President Keith Geeslin today announced that Gockley will retire in July 2016, concluding a ten-year, seven-month tenure with the Company and capping an internationally acclaimed and award-winning career spanning 44 years as one of America's most prominent opera impresarios. Gockley, who will be 73 at the end of the 2015–16 season, became the Company's sixth general director when he joined San Francisco Opera in January 2006. Today's announcement was made at a War Memorial Opera House press conference.
St. Louis' Fox Theatre Presents John Mellencamp
John Mellencamp's No Better Than This Tour will be in St. Louis, Missouri, at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, on November 6. Opening the show is the documentary film 'It's About You' which chronicles the creation of the 'No Better Than This' album.
