BIO

JOHN GRIMMETT is a composer-lyricist and librettist. He is the author of Sleeping Beauty: The Dream (music and lyrics), Odette (music), Part of the Act (libretto), Rain Down The Ruin (music) and And Jill Came Tumbling After (libretto). His work has been produced and performed by the Red Door Theatre Company, Variations Theatre Group, CMASH, the Washington National Opera and the Baltic Chamber Opera Theater in Lithuania.

A proud member and advocate of the Dramatists Guild of America and ASCAP, he was the recipient of the Max Dreyfus Scholarship (2012) in recognition of his talent as a musical theatre composer and named a participant in the inaugural ASCAP Foundation Marvin Hamlisch Broadway Conductors Program. In addition to his work as an artist, Mr. Grimmett is a certified music educator with a passion for responsible arts education.

He is a graduate of the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston and the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University (Cycle 22). He is currently the Managing Director of CMASH, a new music repertory group dedicated to establishing long-term collaborative relationships between composers and performers and welcoming new audiences to the genre of contemporary chamber music.

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announces the release of two new episodes of HGOco's web opera series Star-cross'd: "Now" and "A Rose." These works invite audiences to explore 21st-century opera viewing in a new streaming series of short opera films based on true personal experiences with Romeo and Juliet themes. Each episode includes a line from Shakespeare's play about star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet.
