BIO

John Blaylock currently lives in Southern California where he is the Director of Creative Writing at California School of the Arts – San Gabriel Valley. He holds an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in New York City. In 2015, Mr. Blaylock worked as William Finn’s assistant for Encores! Off-Center’s production of A New Brain, directed by James Lapine. He has also had work produced by Orange Barrington Stage Company, Blindspot Collective, Surflight Theatre, Sesame Street Live, Common Man Musicals, Phoenix Theatre Company, and Orange County School of the Arts.

In addition to teaching in California, John is also a resident writer at Broadway On Tour Children’s Theatre (BOT) in Santa Ana, helping to create new one-hour family musicals. Together with BOT, he has helped to workshop nine new musical theatre pieces over the past fifteen years, all with the help of young Orange County actors and their families. His holiday musical, “A Christmas Show,” has played on and off for over ten years in Southern California. He also works as a guest Musical Director alongside Cathy Rigby at McCoy Rigby Arts in Yorba Linda and as a guest teacher/speaker for Chapman University’s Graduate Student Workshop series. John is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild.
