BWW Review: MARY PAGE MARLOWE at The Alchemy Theatre
Welcome to The Alchemy Theatre, a new Austin venue presenting the regional premiere of Mary Page Marlowe from playwright Tracy Letts (August: Osage County) at the Mastrogeorge Theatre. Mary Page Marlowe showcases nineteen high-caliber artists who give us eleven glimpses, (in nonlinear order) into the life of one woman, and the results could not be more compelling.
BWW Review: DOUBT: A Parable at City Theatre Austin
It has been said many times that the difference between an adequate play and a truly great play is that great plays force one to think. They stay with you, you are compelled to discuss them with your play-going companions, you reflect upon them. While DOUBT: A Parable certainly made this reviewer think - a day later and struggling to adequately review it, it continues to haunt me.

DOUBT: A PARABLE. John Patrick Shanley's Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama brings a gripping storm of suspicion and scandal where no simple truths or answers exist. Set against the backdrop of 1960s America, a turbulent time of political and social change, a progressive young priest's conduct at a Bronx Catholic school comes under question by one of the Sisters, whose beliefs are deeply rooted in a stern and unquestionable tradition.

BWW Review: POCATELLO - Defining a Family in Shifting Times
POCATELLO is a 2014 play from acclaimed playwright and MacArthur Fellow Samuel D. Hunter, that takes a darkly comedic look at the need for interaction and connection in an increasingly homogenized America. In a time when corporate stores are wiping out the uniqueness and the differences that separated one place from another, this play asks the possibly unanswerable question: 'How did I get here'? Samuel D. Hunter's Idaho is the locale for this unflinching look into the changing landscape of middle America, and the flawed, yet real, people trying desperately to define what makes a home when you're standing on shifting ground. His play is naturalistic in nature, reminding one of the domestic dramas of Kansan William Inge. If you aren't sure of what this kind of place looks like, (since Austin still has it's mantra to 'keep weird'), take a short drive up IH-35 to Temple and look around. I challenge you to find something that isn't a chain store.
