William Parker to Release Monumental Archival Set 'Universal Tonality'
Clocking in at nearly two hours and featuring six extended pieces flowing across two discs, Universal Tonality documents a performance that took place at Roulette in Manhattan's TriBeCa neighborhood in December 2002 (one of the final concerts at the venue's original loft space). Parker invited 16 musicians of various ages, cultures and backgrounds.
Drummer/Composer Tomas Fujiwara's Triple Double 'March' Out This March
Look at it one way and you might see two horn/guitar/drum trios; turn slightly and suddenly it becomes three paired artists taking their shared instruments in radically different directions. Despite the unusual instrumentation of the ensemble, however, Triple Double is at its core a group of six distinctive individuals, each among the most innovative and singular voices in contemporary creative music – drummers Tomas Fujiwara and Gerald Cleaver, guitarists Mary Halvorson and Brandon Seabrook, and trumpeter Ralph Alessi and cornet player Taylor Ho Bynum.
JACK Presents Lea Bertucci at Riis Beach and the DUMBO Archway
Brooklyn performance and civic space JACK announces concerts in unusual spaces by acclaimed experimental composer and musician Lea Bertucci. The first, on July 31, involves an afternoon of concerts on the handball courts at Riis Park Beach. The second, on August 14, is a performance in the DUMBO Archway underneath the Manhattan Bridge.
A CENTURY OF FOOTBALL: CELEBRATING THE NFL'S 100TH SEASON Announced At The Paley Center
The Paley Center for Media today announced that it will honor the 100th season of the National Football League (NFL) when it opens the new exhibit: A Century of Football: Celebrating the NFL's 100th Season. Presented in partnership with the NFL and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, this exclusive engagement is free and open to the public, and will run at the Paley Center September 14 to October 27.
