Joe Locarro – Director/Performer
Joe Locarro’s directing credits span theatre, film and television. His theatre directing credits include: Ragtime (Music Theatre of Wichita, North Carolina Theatre and University of Oklahoma), Les Misérables (MT Wichita [’08 & ‘13] and University of Michigan), Cabaret (University of Michigan), Peter Pan (CCM), Jesus Christ Superstar (MTW), Sunday in the Park with George (Oklahoma City University), and two original music reviews (Manhattan School of Music), among others.
Joe’s film and television directing credits include the feature length documentary, Finding Billy, The Search for Billy Elliot, nominated for two NY EMMY AWARDS, premiering on PBS and was featured in film festivals in the USA and Hong Kong. He directed the PBS Series, Intelligence Squared Debates for two seasons and Vine Talk, starring Stanley Tucci. Other PBS specials include: Remember Me, featuring Parsons Dance and the East Village Opera Co., A Tale of Two Cities in Concert, starring Michael York, three PBS specials with Deepak Chopra and numerous others.
This past year he directed the film tribute to Howell Binkley the acclaimed Broadway lighting designer, as well as eight virtual galas for various shows and arts organizations. He was also a guest director for the Jazz at Lincoln Center live performance webcasts and creates commercials, music videos and promos for numerous arts originations including: Moulin Rouge!, Waitress, Phantom of the Opera, Second Stage Theatre, all on Broadway and Parsons Dance, Riverside Park Conservancy and numerous others.
On Broadway, Joe was in the original companies of Ragtime, Goodbye Girl, Merlin & Paper Moon. Other Broadway shows include Les Misérables (role of ‘Enjolras’) and Cats.
He was also in the First National Tours of Les Misérables/ ‘Enjolras’, CATS / ‘Munkustrap’ and West Side Story / ‘Tony’ u/s. as well as the role of ‘Jesus’ in Jesus Christ Superstar at Music Theater of Wichita.
Joe Locarro, Began his career as a dancer and choreographer. He danced with the Boston, Joffrey and Hartford ballet companies. He has choreographed 28 concert dance works and 20 musicals. Joe won the ASTRAL Choreography Competition and has received creative arts grants from the ASTRAL foundation, New Jersey Council on the Arts, National Choreography Project and the Carlisle Project.
