BIO

Performing at the age of 5, stage managing at 14, teaching at 18, PR & Marketing at 20, and Company Managing by 25. With great stints at Next Move Theatre, Copley Square Ballet, I only really learned how it all worked together by working for more than 15 years with (David) Balsom and Associates, one of Boston’s best boutique PR and Marketing companies.

All that led to JBPR. As owner and manager of Joanne Barrett Public Relations/JBPR in Cambridge, MA, I advise not-for-profit and for-profit arts and entertainment organizations, representing Theater, Music, Dance, and Visual Art, on a range of media and marketing communications issues. JPBR provides integrated media and marketing promotions for hundreds of performances and events across Greater Boston and New England each year, as well as providing high-level institutional messaging around strategic announcements and events, and developing consumer-based multimedia retail strategies for organizations of all sizes and needs.

I learned the business working for more than 15 years with (David) Balsom and Associates, one of Boston’s best boutique PR and marketing companies. Current and recent clients include The Annual Elliot Norton Awards; the Institute of Contemporary Art; Dance Umbrella; Susan Miller-Havens; Cutler Majestic Theatre; ArtsBoston; The Theater Offensive; Publick Theatre Boston; Catch A Rising Star; National Broadway Tours of Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby and Jesus Christ Superstar; and Big Apple Circus. I am proud to have long-term relationships with musicians Benjamin Sears & Bradford Conner/American Classics; social humorist Jimmy Tingle; Blue Man Group and Shear Madness at The Charles Playhouse. I hold a MA in Theatre from Emerson College, BS in Communication from Miami University of Ohio and Special Marketing Certificate from Boston University, and I am a proud 20 year member of the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers (ATPAM).
