BWW Review: FUN HOME Receives Loving Local Production
FUN HOME is a musical adapted by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori from Alison Bechdel's 2006 graphic novel of the same name. The story is a memoir of Bechdel's discovery of her own sexuality, her relationship with her gay father, and her attempts to unlock the mysteries surrounding his life. It was also the first Broadway musical with a lesbian protagonist. It is told in a series of non-linear vignettes connected by narration provided by the adult Alison character. It ran Off-Broadway from September 2013 to January 2014 where it won three Lucille Lortel Awards (including Outstanding Musical), two Obie Awards and eight Drama Desk Awards. The transfer to Broadway in March 2015 was nominated for twelve Tony Awards, winning five, including Best Musical, and its cast album received a nomination for the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
BWW Review: RUTHLESS! Unfortunately Misses The Mark
RUTHLESS! is a musical spoof of show business with music by Marvin Laird and book and lyrics by Joel Paley that not only spoofs Broadway musicals, but is also a satire of non-musical movies about showbiz such as All About Eve. The musical premiered Off-Broadway in 1992. The show won the 1993 New York Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical.

BWW Review: PAGEANT is Pink Cotton Candy Escapism
PAGEANT, when it originally opened in 1991, was almost ground breaking. The idea of doing a musical parody of a beauty pageant performed by men in drag was fresh… and a little bit crazy in all the good ways. However, twenty five years later, in 2016, the concept creaks in a world where we have RuPaul's Drag Race and traditional beauty pageants have been relegated to cable channels few people watch.
BWW Review: THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW is a Great Fun Evening
THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW is a musical with music, lyrics and a book by Richard O'Brien. A camp tribute to the drive-in science fiction and horror B movie double features of the late 40's through early 70's, it tells the story of newly engaged couple Brad Majors (Daniel Cline) and Janet Weiss (Becca Seferian) who get caught in a storm and come to the castle of mad transvestite scientist Frank N. Furter (Kirk Kelso) on the night he unveils his new creation. That creation is an artificially made, physically perfect muscle man named Rocky (Alejandro Rodriguez), complete 'with long hair and a tan'. The musical was later adapted into the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which has the longest-running release in film history after bombing at the box office on its initial release. The musical has been ranked eighth in the BBC Radio listener poll of the 'Nation's Number One Essential Musicals'.
