This summer, I spent six weeks in Florence, Italy studying Commedia dell’Arte with NYU Grad Acting Faculty. We studied verbatim theatre, Shakespeare, mask-making, neutral and character mask, and of course, Commedia dell’Arte. The program culminated in a devised and improvised final performance based on Molière’s text featuring popular songs by Billie Eilish, Fleetwood Mac, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Davis McCallum, Artistic Director of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival (HVSF), has finalized plans for the Company's 29th season with the announcement that Arabian Nights, written by Mary Zimmerman, adapted from The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night, will run in repertory with Shakespeare's Winter's Tale, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and a limited run of An Illiad, by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare.

As the 2014 season draws to an end, Davis McCallum, Artistic Director of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival (HVSF) gave friends and fans something to look forward to when he announced the 2015 season at a special Sneak Peak event on Saturday evening. Noting that the pieces that he has chosen share in the deep belief in the magic of storytelling, McCallum announced that the 2015 productions will be The Winter's Tale, A Midsummer Night's Dream, An Iliad by Lisa Peterson and Dennis O'Hare, and a fourth, soon to be revealed production. 'Each of these pieces aims to transport the audience with the simplest and most powerful of theatrical means - language, wit, movement, commitment, and passion,' he told the assembled crowd.
