Already an accomplished choreographer at the age of twenty-three, Jillian Petrie has choreographed over twenty full length musicals and countless dance productions professionally. In the past year she has broadened her impressive body of work, showing her versatility as an artist with her recent completion of the musical SEUSSICAL.
In Tony winners Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens's SEUSSICAL, Jillian was co-director and choreographer for The Growing Stage Theatre's Spring 2012 production. The musical opened to critical acclaim, and theater critic Peter Filichia called it "Better than Broadway."
Jillian Petrie Dance Group currently performs throughout New York City. Premiering in Alvin Ailey Studios, they have since performed at Queen's Museum, The Stonewall Inn, Joyce SoHo Studios, and more. Jillian has also been on the panel for the WOMAN IN DANCE productions put on at the Ailey Citigroup Theater for the past three years since her choreography was showcased there in Legros Cultural Arts' 2010 Ten Emerging Female Choreographers performance.
She is currently choreographing the New Jersey premiere musical; DIARY OF A WORM, A SPIDER, & A FLY. Book, Music, & Lyrics by Joan Cushing, this is an exclusive adaptation of Doreen Cronin's three books which were beautifully illustrated by the artist Harry Bliss.
Ms. Petrie has most recently trained under an elite group of artists. Training highlights include the Laban Conservatoire in London, famed choreographer Mark Morris the artistic director of Mark Morris Dance Group, Martha Graham Dance Company soloist David Zurak, and Iceland Dance Company director Gianluca Vincentini.
In addition to her dance career, Jillian is a working actress and singer.
