Jessica Natalie Smith is an actress, director and choreographer form Riverside California. Currently residing in Providence, Rhode Island, Jessica is in her third year at the Brown/ Trinity MFA Acting program. While at Brown, Jessica has had the honor of working at the Trinity Repertory Company as both an actor and an educator.
Jessica has worked in several productions directed by Aileen McGroddy, these works include Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke, William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and New Dramatist Playwright Fellow Julia Izumi’s Akira Kurisowa Explains his work in Film and Yogurt. Leading up to the pandemic, Jessica was slated to take the stage as the leading lady in Euripedes’ Medea. Since then, she has been honored to work alongside James Dean Palmer and Myah Shien in The Gallery Players’ digital production of Hamlet as Laertes and Rosencrantz. A recent alumni of the 24 Hour Plays: Nationals, Jessica has also completed a summer of study in the Hangar Theatre’ Lab Company.
This fall, Jessica will receive the chance opportunity to direct a play under the mentorship of acclaimed director, Brian Mertes. Her previous directing experiences include assisting and choreographing alongside Josiah Davis in David Adjmi’s Marie Antoinette, assisting Drama League Fellow Tatyana Marie-Carlo in She Kills Monsters, and assistant directing and choreographing new works at the Trinity Repertory Company’s Young Actors Summer Institute.
