BIO

Jessica Mixon (she/her) is a Creole belle born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Growing up in the Big Easy, Jessica was enriched in the art and culture of the city at a very young age. Throughout her elementary school days, she looked forward to participating in plays and recitals during the school year. When she was not participating arts-related extra-curricular activities, she played sports. Jessica also grew up with two pianos in her household and took that to her advantage to learn how to play the piano by ear. Unfortunately, at the age of thirteen, Hurricane Katrina damaged her home and destroyed both pianos, but the skills and musical attributes she acquired from the instruments have not been forgotten.

Jessica caught the musical theater bug unexpectedly when she was cast as a replacement for the role of the “Queen” in Crescent City Lights Youth Theater’s production of The Dream on Royal Street in 2006. Her life was forever changed when she met the original Grammy-award winning composer of the musical, Alan Menken, who came down to New Orleans to see the show during the run. From that point on, her love for the stage was set in stone. Jessica went on to attend St. Mary’s Dominican High School and quickly became an active thespian in the school musicals, drama club, and assemblies. In addition, she continued to perform in theatrical productions throughout the New Orleans area outside of school.

In 2010, Jessica began attending Loyola University New Orleans for Vocal Performance, but quickly found herself itching to be a part of the theatrical productions. In the Fall of her Sophomore year, she landed the role of “Judas” in Godspell with the Loyola Theater, which went on to win a Big Easy Entertainment award the following year. Jessica also participated with the Loyola Opera her junior and senior year, landing a role as “Paquette” in Candide in 2013 and “Papagena” in The Magic Flute in 2014. By graduation, Jessica had over thirty productions under her belt and a solid foundation to further her performance career.

After graduation, Jessica continued on to star in several staged shows. Her most notable roles being "The Leading Player" in Le Petit Theatre's Pippin and "The Narrator" in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Summer Lyric Theatre. Jessica went on to perform globally with the WWII-inspired singing group, The Victory Belles until 2020.
Today, Jessica continues to share her gifts from a socially distanced lense. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she has picked up podcasting, rollerskating, sewing, protesting, and music producing.

BWW Review: ONCE ON THIS ISLAND Wows Audiences at Le Petit

Alright y'all, here's the deal. Once in a while I have tickets to a show that I've only vaguely heard of before much less know what it's about. Sometimes I walk out of the theatre shaking my head, but then there's times I walk out of the theatre thinking, 'Ok, why have I never seen this before? Everyone needs to know about this!' ONCE ON THIS ISLAND at Le Petit Theatre prompted that second reaction out of me.
