Noble St. After discovering her special talent, Akeelah dreams of winning the national spelling bee. LELA & CO Extends Again at Steep Theatre
This summer's runaway hit is Steep Theatre's Lela & Co. This powerful U.S. premiere will run through September 16. Steep is adding eight new chances to hear Lela's passionately told story of resilience and hope in the face of overwhelming adversity, featuring Cruz Gonzalez-Cadel and Chris Chmelik, whose performances have been described as 'stunning,' 'fantastic,' and 'extraordinary empathetic.'
LELA & CO Opens 7/13 at Steep Theatre
Steep Theatre will introduce another emerging British playwright to Chicago with the U.S. Premiere of Cordelia Lynn's Lela & Co., directed by Robin Witt, featuring Cruz Gonzalez-Cadel and Chris Chmelik. This production will mark Lynn's U.S. debut, but Chicago audiences are no stranger to the work of director Robin Witt. Witt, a Steep Company Member, has been at the helm of some of the ensemble's most memorable shows, including Simon Stephens' Wastwater, Motortown, Pornography, and Harper Regan; Dennis Kelly's Love and Money; and Alistair McDowall's Brilliant Adventures. She won the 2015 and 2016 Jeff Award for Best Director for Griffin Theatre's Flare Path and London Wall.

Adventure Stage Chicago (ASC), a program of Northwestern Settlement (the Settlement), presents the touring version of 2012's Six Stories Tall, written by Marco Ramirez and directed by ASC Producing Artistic Director Tom Arvetis. The production includes performances in Chicago (March 21 - April 29), the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, TN (March 29 - 31), and The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College in New York (May 5).

A new play with original music forming part of the National Theatre of Scotland's Home Away Festival (performing in Glasgow on October 8), Reprise will return to Chicago for public performances November 4-5. School matinees are scheduled for November 1-10. ASC also announces the postponement of Jack's House. All performances take place at Northwestern Settlement's Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble St. Tickets are $10 for preview performances, and $17 for adults and $12 for youth aged 14 years and younger for the regular run. With original music and lyrics inspired by Chicago's cultural traditions, Reprise follows an immigrant story as we discover what he did with the instrument all those years, how he knew he was finished, and what it meant to keep his promise.
