BIO

Jeromy Hopgood is a Detroit-based designer, author, and educator whose work includes scenery, projection design, dance, and event / installation work. His designs have been seen in professional theatres and dance companies across the United States. Recently, his projection design for Skeleton Crew at People’s Light was nominated for the Barrymore Award for Excellence in Theatre, Outstanding Media Design.

Jeromy is a Professor at Eastern Michigan University, where he coordinates the multidisciplinary Entertainment Design & Technology program. He is also the author of QLab 3 Show Control, and QLab 4: Projects in Video, Audio, & Lighting Control (the definitive guidebooks for Figure 53’s popular audio/video/lighting software), as well as Dance Production: Design & Technology. His newest book, The Projection Designer's Toolkit was released 2021. In addition to his books, Jeromy is a regular contributor to such trade publications as Live Design, and Stage Directions, and on his own Entertainment Design & Technology blog.

Jeromy regularly teaches master classes on projection design, as well as the industry-standard QLab show control software, which he presents at venues across the country. Jeromy has previously taught courses at the LDI Institute at Arizona State University, LDI in Las Vegas, and numerous workshops through USITT, of which he is a longstanding member and the current Vice-Commissioner for Education for the Digital Media Commission.

2018 Barrymore Award Nominations Announced For Excellence In Theatre

Theatre Philadelphia, the region's marketing and leadership organization for theatre, proudly announces the 2018 nominees for the Barrymore Award for Excellence in Theatre. Celebrating the rich, diverse professional theatre scene in the Greater Philadelphia region, the Barrymore Ceremony will be held on Monday, November 5th at 7pm at the Bok Building at 1901 S. 9th Street in South Philadelphia. That same community has been mourning the unimaginable, heartbreaking loss of Heck Seibert since April 13 when she died after being struck by a car while walking her dog in her Ann Arbor neighborhood. She would have been 62 on May 5.
Off-Broadway Hit SKELETON CREW Comes to People's Light

People's Light presents the wildly successful off-Broadway hit Skeleton Crew, a powerful story of love and loyalty by New Play Frontiers writer Dominique Morisseau. This funny, incisive, and "deeply American" (The New York Times) play that "theatergoers won't want to miss" (Huffington Post) centers on a group of Detroit autoworkers as they confront the eroding manufacturing industry. Steve H. Broadnax III, who directed the theatre's critically-acclaimed staging of The Mountaintop in 2016, returns for the production. Skeleton Crew opens on June 13 and has already extended to July 15 on the Steinbright Stage at People's Light.

In the director's chair was internationally-renowned actor/director/playwright John Neville-Andrews. On stage was the first pairing of Janice Waldron and David Blixt, playing opposite each other as Kate and Petruchio. Waldron had just graduated from the Hilberry conservatory program in Detroit, while Ann Arbor native Blixt had performed as Mercutio at the festival the previous year. The results were electric.

The Michigan Shakespeare Festival, the Official Shakespeare Festival of the State of Michigan, designated by the Governor and State Legislature, continued their 2017 "Lend Me Your Ears" reading series with Noel Coward's sophisticated comedy PRIVATE LIVES.  The reading, held at Jackson's Symphony Orchestra Hall (which also houses the offices of the MSF), featured touring company actors Derek Ridge and Sara Long, long-time artistic associate David Blixt, and Producing Artistic Director Janice L Blixt.
