The Bushwick Starr Presents the 9th Annual BIG GREEN THEATER FESTIVAL
The Bushwick Starr, in collaboration with Superhero Clubhouse, is proud to present BIG GREEN THEATER, a series of plays written by public school elementary students from Bushwick's PS75 and Ridgewood's PS239. Celebrating its ninth year, BIG GREEN THEATER (BGT) is an eco-playwriting program in which kids write short plays about local ecology, climate change, and environmental justice, then see their work produced professionally for public audiences. This year's students have crafted eco-plays that question and tackle some of the world's most pressing environmental issues: climate change, habitat loss, and the interconnectedness of ecosystems. The plays are performed by an ensemble of professional actors, directors, and designers using only green theater methods (recycled materials for sets and costumes, solar-powered LED lighting, paperless programming, etc). BGT is a beloved community based program celebrating environmental education, sustainability in the arts, and community enrichment.

Premiere Production of PLUTO (no longer a play) Comes to The Brick
The Brick Theater presents the world premiere of PLUTO (no longer a play), the latest from New York-based collective Superhero Clubhouse and the final installment of their Planet Plays series. PLUTO tackles the subject of mass extinction as three humans attempt to give a presentation about the remains of a play that no longer exists. The fragments seem to suggest the story of a unicorn, a hunter, and a wizard, all struggling to adapt to a rapidly changing world. Facing similar dilemmas, the three humans reenact their findings, searching for hope among the bones.

Work of Eco-Theater JUPITER to Play LaMaMa in February
'JUPITER (a play about power)' by Superhero Clubhouse and Kaimera Productions is an argument of soaring irony and logic between humanity and a dude with one-time magic who has made all fossil fuels disappear permanently from the Earth. That's not such an unbelievable premise, when you think about it, because in terms of our global history, we are on the brink of an energy systems overhaul. Some 'man at the switch' could at any time begin shutting our industrial civilization down. Oh, we'll be indignant then. Now imagine a philosophical debate between this overlord and a woman who represents all of humankind. That is the one-act 'dream play' that will be offered to us by playwright Jeremy Pickard, director Simon Adinia Hanukai and musician/energy policy specialist Jonathan Camuzeaux, presented by La Mama from February 11-28, 2016.
