Island Theatre's 8th Annual Ten-Minute Play Festival Runs August 16 & 17 At BPA

In its eighth iteration, Island Theatre brings to the stage ten of the best short plays penned by Kitsap County playwrights for a three day festival of live performances at Bainbridge Performing Arts. The plays have been selected from over sixty submissions by a blind judging panel of theatre professionals. Plays will be helmed by ten local directors and cast with over two dozen local actors.

Blast off on a routine flight and crash into the planet D'Illyria where a sci fi version of "The Tempest" set to rock 'n' roll golden oldies unfolds with glee. The planet is inhabited by a sinister scientist, Dr. Prospero; his delightful daughter Miranda; Ariel, a faithful robot; and an uncontrollable monster, the product of Prospero's Id, who wreaks havoc on the space craft. This Atomic-Age romp includes classics like Born to be Wild, Wipeout, Good Vibrations, Great Balls of Fire, and The Monster Mash.

Out of 57 submissions from established and emerging Kitsap County playwrights, ten were selected by a jury of theatre professionals for production by Island Theatre directors and actors: "Bloody Mary" by Aleks Merilo, "Flight of the Valkyrie" by Noah Barfield, "Gel Us" by Paige Zubel, "Jellyfish Apocalypse" by Karen Polinsky, "Lessons Learned" by Jenny Weaver, "Memories of an American Occupation" by Paul Lewis, "Moving On" by Caroline Smith, "Of a Feather" by Wendy Wallace, "Roadsides" by Betsy Dorfman, and "Spreadsheet Me" by Jeffrey Brown.
