BIO

Jennifer Goode Cooper has enjoyed a rich career that reflects a fusion of opera, music theater, song, and new works. This season she will join Samuel Ramey as Olin Blitch, to sing the title role in Floyd’s Susannah with Toledo Opera. Last year she sang her debut with New York City Opera as Miss Jessel in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. Just prior, she debuted the role of Titania/Hippolyta in the first known a cappella opera, Michael Ching’s A Midsummer Night's Dream (Albany Records), at Opera Memphis. She also sang the NYC premiere of William Mayer's A Death in the Family (Albany Records), and performed Musetta in Baz Luhrmann's acclaimed Broadway and LA productions of La Bohème. Jennifer has sung cabarets at the Firebird Café in NYC, concerts at Carnegie Hall, backup for Patti LuPone, and benefits with Neil Diamond, Jerry Herman, and Alan Menken. You may have heard Jennifer on NY's Power 105.1 weekly Hip Hopera segment, where she sang opera parodies of hip-hop hits with celebrity DJs Ed Lover and Doctor Dre.

Jennifer just completed a successful run of Die Fledermaus at Syracuse Opera, and next debuts the role of Donna Elvira with First Coast Opera. She then returns to Opera Memphis as Older Alice in Tom Cipullo's Glory Denied, after last year's debut of Ivonne, a contemporary monodrama by Nathaniel Stookey, for the Ghosts of Crosstown series at the Midtown Opera Festival. She was a 2013 United States Cultural Arts Envoy to Mozambique, and is a 2014 recipient of the Professional Development Grant from the Kurt Weill Foundation.

Jennifer currently resides in Ohio with her husband, bass-baritone Sean Cooper, their three children, and their hairless cat Bruce.

The iconic tale of The Little Match Girl returns to New York City on its new date – Friday, April 8, 2022 (originally slated for January 22, but postponed due to COVID), in a special concert presentation presented by Oxygen Media and Emma Wang in association with Nava Wang. Showcase Of New Operas By AOP Emerging Composers And Librettists Announced

This fall, contemporary opera producer AMERICAN OPERA PROJECTS (AOP) will present COMPOSERS & THE VOICE: SIX SCENES 2018, a showcase concert of opera scenes from nine artists emerging in the world of contemporary opera. Audiences will get a first look at six wildly different new works invoking diverse settings such as the Arab Spring in Tunisia, a post-apocalyptic future, and a modern college campus and exploring a multitude of themes and concepts, including the emotional minefield of solar flares, the dissonance of fundamentalism in urban and regional communities, and the nature and validity of Opera itself. The composers Matt Browne, Scott Ordway, Frances Pollock, Pamela Stein Lynde, Amber Vistein and Alex Weiser, and librettists Laura Barati, Kim Davies, andSokunthary Svay, were chosen by AOP to spend a year creating new works in its bi-annual fellowship program Composers & the Voice (C&V). The evening will be hosted by C&V Artistic Director Steven Osgood.

The primary focus of Composers & the Voice is to give emerging composers and librettists experience working collaboratively with singers on writing for the voice and contemporary opera stage.

Resident Ensemble of Professional Opera Singers Selected for AOP Training Program

AOP (American Opera Projects) announces the six singers who will become its Resident Ensemble for the upcoming ninth season of its Composers & the Voice training program. Comprised of one each of the basic operatic/vocal categories, the singers for the 2017-18 season will be Coloratura Soprano Tookah Sapper, Lyric Soprano Jennifer Goode Cooper, Mezzo-Soprano Blythe Gaissert, Tenor Blake Friedman, Baritone Mario Diaz-Moresco and Bass Adrian Rosas.
