Oakland, CA, January 5 – Oakland East Bay Symphony and Music Director Michael Morgan continue their popular and insightful annual “Notes from . . .” series this season with Notes from Mexico, featuring composer/performer Diana Gameros, pianist Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner and Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Carlos Moreno Friday, March 27, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. The Symphony's “Notes from . . .” series has become a popular mainstay of the Bay Area music scene and annually explores symphonic music both new and traditional from cultures that may be less well known to audiences. Past “Notes from . . .” programs have focused on music fromPersia, the Philippines, China and the Middle East. This concert is sponsored by Mueller Nicholls Builders and The Grubb Co. Realtors. Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner's performance is supported by a grant from The Ross McKee Foundation. Tickets are priced $20-$70 and a pre-concert talk will be given at 7 pm and is free to ticket-holders. The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) paid tribute to the winners and honorees of the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards in collaboration with Swarovski at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. Film director and screenwriter John Waters was the host for the evening. For the thirteenth year in a row, the evening was generously underwritten by Swarovski.
BWW Review: THE YORKVILLE NUTCRACKER is Delightful
Dances Patrelle, the official ballet company of Ballet Academy East, with its well-trained students and company members ranging in ages 5 to 65, guests stars Jenifer Ringer and Jared Angle (New York City Ballet) and Matthew Dribble (The Royal Ballet) and children from various New York City dance schools presented their 18th annual production of The Yorkville Nutcracker at the Kaye Playhouse, December 5-8. This enchanting holiday treat takes place in New York City locales such as the Crystal Palace at the New York Botanical Gardens, the Central Park skating pond and Gracie Mansion. The December 8th final performance was both a triumphant and sad one, as Ms. Ringer, the glorious Sugar Plum Fairy of this production for 17 years, danced her final performance. Ms. Ringer is also retiring from New York City Ballet this spring.

The new additions bring the total membership to 454. “Acceptance into the CFDA family is validation of a designer's talent and it is an opportunity to access the many offerings and programs provided by the organization,” said CFDA chief executive officer Steven Kolb.
