Romeo & Juliet: Hard Way Home will open at the CSULB University Theatre on Friday November 8th at 7:30 PM. An adaptation conceived by director Beth Lopes, the production will have a single preview performance on November 7th at 7:30 PM. Performances will continue through November 16th.

BWW Review: IN THE PENAL COLONY at Cal State U Long Beach STUDIO THEATER

Based on the story by Franz Kafka, the opera has words by Rudolph Wurlitzer and, in this production, added text by Juliette Carillo based on interviews with members of Rising Scholars. The latter is a CSULB group consisting of former inmates and family members of people who have served time.
Cal Rep And LBO Collaborate To Stage IN THE PENAL COLONY
California Repertory Company (CSULB Theatre Arts Department) is collaborating with the Long Beach Opera to produce the Southern California premiere of In the Penal Colony, a pocket opera by Philip Glass. Jeff Janisheski, the Artistic Director of California Repertory Company, is directing the production. In the Penal Colony combines theatre and opera to tell Franz Kafka's dystopian short story about the struggles of capital punishment, morality, and the darkness of the human spirit.

California Repertory Company continues its 30th Anniversary Season with Dear Harvey by Patricia Loughrey. Opening during LGBT History Month and on National Coming Out Day, October 11, 2018, Dear Harvey, pays tribute to Harvey Milk one of the first openly gay elected official in the history of California. Despite his short career in politics, Harvey Milk became an icon of hope. This year marks the 40th anniversary of his assassination.

2018 California Repertory Company begins its 2018-2019 season with The Ghosts of Lote Bravo by Hilary Bettis. The play centers on a mother and daughter who struggle to survive in violent Ciudad Juarez. Guided by La Santa Muerte, Juanda sees her daughter Raquel in a new light, ultimately learning about Raquel's hidden hopes, dreams, and courage. It is a gritty and emotional new work exposing the raw underbelly of The United States' relationship with Mexico and shows the human carnage left in NAFTA's wake.
