Mixed Magic Theatre Presents SWEAT and GILDED SIX BITS
Pell Award Winner Ricardo Pitts-Wiley's unique approach to the adaptation of 'Sweat' and 'The Gilded Six Bits', two short stories by Zora Neale Hurston, is a compelling tribute to the controversial and celebrated author of 'Their Eyes Were Watching God '. Hurston an American folklorist, anthropologist ,novelist, ethnographer, and short story writer is considered one of the pre-eminent writers of 20th century African American literature. Hurston was a central figure in the Harlem Renaissance and her four novels, two books of folklore and her recently recovered and published ( May 8, 2018 )a masterpiece Barracoon: The Story of the Last ' Black Cargo ' have proven invaluable sources on the oral cultures of African America. Barracoon is hailed as ' a stunning addition to several overlapping cannons of American literature.'

Epic Theatre Company is throwing a barbecue! Last October, the theater presented the Rhode Island premiere of Robert O'Hara's 'Bootycandy.' Next month, Epic will be premiering another ingenious work by Mr. O'Hara-the biting and brilliant 'Barbecue.' For this production, Epic will be using its brand new outdoor space at 50 Rolfe to create an immersive experience that's going to put the audience right in the middle of one big family feud. Mixed Magic Theater presents THE RED TENT
In 2007 director/playwright Ricardo Pitts-Wiley was given a copy of Anita Diamant's THE RED TENT. After reading the first chapter, he knew it could make a great stage play. The novel had all of the essential and captivating elements of drama; compelling characters, pathos, conflict, intrigue and engaging dialogue.
Mixed Magic Theatre to Stage Holiday Shows
Mixed Magic Theatre will present both of its two annual Holiday shows on Saturday, December 19th at Hope High School and Honor Distinguished Teachers, Coaches and Alums. The Honors Reception will take place at 2:00 PM in the Hope High Auditorium Lobby.
