BWW Review: YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU Still Entertains After 80+ Years

Rochester's Screen Plays continues what it does best with their current production of You Can't Take it With You: present Hollywood's most iconic stories in the small, intimate setting of the Multi-Use Community Cultural Center (referred to by most as 'The MuCCC'). This play, based on the Academy Award-winning 1938 romantic comedy starring Jean Arthur and Frank Capra, tells the story of what happens when two families-one prim and snobbish, the other wonderfully eccentric- collide.

BWW Review: PETER PAN, O MUSICAL Takes Flight at Teatro Alfa, in Sao Paulo

Who has never dreamed of imprisoning time, being eternally a child? The desires of Peter Pan populate the collective unconscious and follow as one of the great longings of humanity. No wonder, the fable of the boy who refused to grow up, created by J. M. Berrie, is more and more current. This classic became a reference in literature, in the cinema and also in the theater. The Broadway version of 'Peter Pan' will finally win a Brazilian staging, with Mateus Ribeiro in the title role and Daniel Boaventura as Captain Hook. The show directed by Jose Possi Neto and choreographed by Alonso Barros, premiered on March 8, at Teatro Alfa, in a production of Touche Entertainment and coproduction of Daniel Boaventura.
BWW Review: NOBODY BUNNY IN THE GOLDEN AGE OF ANIMATION at Theatre [502]

As a prelude to this play, vintage cartoons from the 1930's were projected onstage as the audience entered to take their seats. Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie, which introduced Mickey Mouse, was animated by Ub Iwerks, who (we are informed on titles between the shorts) soon left Disney to make his own cartoons for MGM, including Flip the Frog, an example of which followed hard upon. Before curtain, we were also treated to Betty Boop, and all of the cartoons were in stark black & white. Playwright Eli Keel identifies this period as the 'Golden Age of Animation', a time when the form was almost literally being invented. The end of the decade would bring Snow White, often described, somewhat inaccurately, as the first feature-length animated film. That it was in full color underscores the rapid development of the technology and the storytelling. However much the late 1940's and 1950's are celebrated for the rise of Disney's commercial empire, Keel has chosen the most interesting and fertile period of animation creativity in which to set his story.
Review Roundup: THE OUTSIDER at Paper Mill Playhouse

Paper Mill Playhouse presents THE OUTSIDER, the biting political satire by Paul Slade Smith. This hilarious play follows Ned Newley, perhaps the most unlikely candidate ever, who is suddenly and unexpectedly thrust into the role of Governor when the current Governor is forced to resign. Though he has experience with the law, he couldn't have less experience with being a public figure; Newly is lacking in natural charisma and is definitely afraid of public speaking. Desperate to make things work, his political consultants work to keep him on the right track. THE OUTSIDER opened on January 24th and is set to run through February 18th.
