Jayne Deely is a multi-ethnic queer playwright and performer, and a proud native of Queens, NY. They hold a BA in Playwriting and English from Fordham University, graduating summa cum laude from the Honors College, and an MFA in Playwriting from Indiana University Bloomington, where they attended as a fully funded playwriting fellow. As a performer, Jayne is a proud member of Actors’ Equity and SAG-AFTRA, having worked with companies such as Theatreworks Palo Alto, Berkeley Rep, the Aurora Theatre, and Cal Shakes. They most recently took on the role of Garnet McClit in Holly Hughes’ The Well of Horniness at IU Bloomington.
Plays include Stay (semi-finalist, Detroit New Works Festival), Passing (semi-finalist, UCF Pegasus Playlab), 30 Seconds (semi-finalist Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center National Playwrights Conference and the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, winner Coe College Playwriting Award, BriNK Residency Award at Renaissance Theatreworks), Outraged (winner, John Cauble Award for Outstanding Short Play, Kennedy Center), Waycross, an audio play (Kennedy Center Latinx Playwriting Award, Distinguished Achievement), and their thesis uncle play, or, you won’t find a vintage hate shield on etsy (semi-finalist BAPF, Kennedy Center Region 3 Full-Length Playwriting Award), which was just produced as part of the 2022 IU Bloomington At First Sight Festival of New Works.
