Festival Favorite Award From 2020 Sundance Film Festival Announced
Sundance Institute announced Giving Voice as the winner of the Festival Favorite Award, selected by audience votes from the 128 features screened at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, which took place in Park City, Salt Lake City, and Sundance, Utah, from January 23–February 2, 2020.
Sundance Institute to Host Week of Creative Film Producing Initiatives, 7/29-8/4
Sundance Institute today announced the participants for its annual Creative Producing Labs and Creative Producing Summit, both held the week of July 29 at the Sundance Resort in Sundance, Utah. These activities are part of the Institute's year-round Creative Producing Initiative, which encompasses a series of Labs, Fellowships and other events that support independent producers.
The 26th Columbia University Film Festival Runs 5/3-9
Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program and The Film Society of Lincoln Center have announced they will co-present the 26th Annual Columbia University Film Festival (CUFF), a week-long program of screenings, dramatic readings and special events in New York. The celebration will continue with events to be announced for June in Los Angeles. This marks the second year that the festival is co-presented by the Film Society.
Tracy Letts and Kelly Reilly Join LOVE IS STRANGE Indie Film
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts will join Ira Sachs's indie film LOVE IS STRANGE from Parts & Labor, alongside Kelly Reilly, Michael Gambon and Alfred Molina. Production is slated to begin in New York City this summer.
Cinedigm Acquires Rights to Shaul Schwarz's Documentary NARCO CULTURA
Cinedigm has acquired North American distribution rights to Israeli photographer and filmmaker Shaul Schwarz's NARCO CULTURA, which world premiered last week at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in the Documentary Competition section. The film was produced by Parts & Labor's Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy and Ocean Size Pictures' Todd Hagopian; executive produced by Fred Warren and Robin Warren; and edited by Bryan Chang and Jay Arthur Sterrenberg. It will next screen at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival in the Panorama section. Cinedigm plans a theatrical release and awards qualifying run for the film in 2013.
AIN'T THEM BODIES SAINTS, Starring Rooney Mara, Begins Production
Evolution Independent, Lagniappe and Paradox Entertainment announce today that principal photography has begun on the new dramatic thriller AIN'T THEM BODIES SAINTS, which was written and is being directed by David Lowery ("Pioneer") and stars Academy Award-nominees Rooney Mara ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") and Casey Affleck ("The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"), and multiple award-winner Ben Foster ("3:10 To Yuma"). The film tells the story of Bob Muldoon (Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Mara), two young outlaws who are brought down by the law in the hills of Texas.
Michael K. Williams to Star in DIRTY WHITE BOY
Parts & Labor's Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy - the producing duo behind Mike Mills' Oscar-winning film Beginners which won Christopher Plummer his first Academy Award last month - announced today that they are partnering with Todd Hagopian at Ocean Size Pictures, to produce DIRTY WHITE BOY.
