Review: CRY IT OUT Delivers the Laughs at Capital Stage

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Capital Stage has revealed a play that is perfect for celebrating mothers. It also happens to be my favorite of their offerings to date. Cry it Out, by Molly Smith Metzler, tackles an important conversation that often gets overlooked, and does it with insight, grace, and a whole lot of humor.

In the hilariously theatrical style of The 39 Steps, five actors portray dozens of characters in a thrilling race against time and treachery, recreating one of the greatest adventures of all time. Full of stampeding elephants, raging typhoons, and runaway trains, Around the World in 80 Days, adapted by the award-winning playwright Mark Brown, offers an imaginative and ingenious expedition for the whole family. B Street Theatre Presents BLOOMSDAY

Bloomsday was commissioned by the ACT theatre in Seattle, Washington and premiered there in September of 2015, where it received rave reviews. The play has received further productions throughout the country: the Ensemble Theatre in Cincinnati, Ohio, Austin Playhouse in Austin, Texas, and the Next ACT Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
B Street Theatre's Mainstage Presents HAND TO GOD

Hand to God premiered at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York City in October 2011 and returned in February 2012. It opened Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on March 14, 2014 and made its Broadway debut at the Boothe Theatre on April 7, 2015.

Capital Stage presents Stuping F##king Bird by Aaron Posner, the irreverent adaptation of Chekov's classic The Seagull, originally comissioned and first performed by Woolly Mammoth Theatre in Washington, DC in 2013. Michael Stevenson, Capital Stage Producing Artistic Director, will direct this Sacramento Premiere which will feature a powerhouse cast of local favorites including Brittni Barger, Jason Kuykendall and Capital Stage Co-Founder Peter Mohrmann. Bird will be the fifth production of Capital Stage's 2016-17 Season: Love + War, and will run from May 3 - June 4, 2017 with a Press Opening on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 8pm.
