Janet MacEwen was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada
She had established herself as a television makeup artist at both CBC and CTV, founding theatre producer and Company Manager of Another Theatre Company, actress, and recording session and jazz singer when she moved to Toronto in 1984. In Toronto, Janet began studying voice with the late great Cornelius Reid's protege, David Dunbar, and everything changed: Musical Theatre became her career.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - Janet was in the original 1995 Toronto company of Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST @ The Princess of Wales Theatre and took over the role pf 'Mrs.Potts' in the second year. She joined the Broadway Company in NYC in 1998 to be 1st understudy for 'Mrs. Potts' in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST on Broadway, starring Patrick Page, Tony Braxton and Meshack Taylor and later, Andrea McArdle @ the famous Palace Theatre. Janet left New York City a year later to star as 'Mrs.Potts' for two amazing years in the 2nd U.S. National Tour of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
Janet originated the role of 'Madge' in the brilliant Marvin Hamlisch, Nicholas Hytner, John Guare, Ed Harris(TO) and Jonathan Price(NYC) in the Toronto and N.Y.C. workshops of the multi-Tony Award nominated SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS. While living in New York Janet had the privilege of studying voice and audition technique with the late great Cornelius Reid, and cabaret guru Craig Carnelia, respectively.
Janet returned to Canada to join the Canadian company of MAMA MIA as the Donna/Rosie us.

PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES - Janet played 'Prudie' in PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES in five consecutive productions and on tour: The Charlottetown Festival , The Grand Theatre London, The National Arts Centre, Centaur Theatre, Toronto Workshop Productions & National Tour.
SUDS - In Toronto, @ The New Century Theatre (Danforth Music Hall) in1988 Janet played the irrepressible guardian angel, 'Marge' in the off-Broadway cult hit SUDS! to rave reviews. This was the 1st Canadian production and was fully supervised by the hands-on New York/San Diego creative team.
HOUSE OF MARTIN GUERRE - In 1994 Janet received a best actress DORA Award nomination for originating the role of 'Catherine' in the World Premiere of Leslie Arden's THE HOUSE OF MARTIN GUERRE (Theatre Plus).

Janet originated the role of Alex in the Leslie Arden workshop of MOLL for CanStage and in 2007 was the producer and company manager for Script Lab's CANADIAN MUSICAL THEATRE WEEK 'new' workshop of Cathy Elliottt's FIREWEEDS (in which Janet also played the newly developed role of Paula opposite Charlotte Moore)

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES - In 2006 Janet MacEwen proudly joined the famous Charlottetown Festival company in the iconic role of Marilla Cuthbert in ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. She was also a featured singer in CANADA ROCKS that same season. Janet returned to The Charlottetown Festival for 4 consecutive seasons.
Janet also played Marilla Cuthbert in the DanCap/Charlottetown Festival co-production of ANNE OF GREEN GABLES in Toronto @ THe Elgin Theatre in May 2009 before returning to the Charlottetown Festival for her 4th season.
Kevin Sullivan (Sullivan Films) cast Janet as Marilla Cuthbert in his workshop of the upcoming film musical ANNE OF AVONLEA.

Janet won the People's Choice TWISI Award for Outstanding Achievement on a CD by a Female Theatre Artist.
* Alfie Zappacosta and Janet created a concert/cabaret based on the music of Zappacosta for the two of them to tour called, CabaRomantico.
* Janet has also released a co-written duet "One True Love" on Frank MacKay's latest CD: "Believe It Or Not".
*Janet's song "Movin' On" (w/ co-wrter Liz Tansey) was released on Pat Henman's CD "Solo", and won Song of The Year @ The 2012 Kootenay Music Festival.
* The 12th Anuual Unisong International Songwriting Contest:
Janet's song "I've Never Really Known You", from BACK WHERE I BELONG, received honourable mention in the Performance Category of the 12th annual Unisong International Songwriting Contest.
Janet completed her contract as The Bird Woman in the Disney/Cameron Mackintosh 1st US National Tour MARY POPPINS @ the famous Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, Mexico, where the 1st US National Tour officially closed in February 2012.
Janet MacEwen is currently playing the Bird Woman @The New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway.
