Janel Scarborough dons a myriad of hats as an entertainment producer, creative consultant, script developer and dramaturg. The native New Yorker of multicultural Caribbean heritage has coached, mentored and collaborated with a diverse array of artists across the entertainment industry of film, television, theater and live events; involving actors, content creators, directors, executives, musicians, producers and writers from around the world. As a long standing advocate for creative arts education, she is innately drawn to the genesis stage of ideation and steadfastly committed to investing time, energy, and resources into ensuring that the power of artistic exploration is accessible to all; cultivating, developing and nurturing the vast potential of talent in others. As a result of her extensive experience, she has been sought after by corporations and nonprofits to advise and guest speak about diversified storytelling, marketing and building inclusive audiences. A few of her distinctive projects include: executive producing the multi-award winning film “In Time” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by HBO Network; internationally producing and starring in the thought provoking stage play “Single Black Female”; contributing to initial development of the inspiring immigration musical "Welcome To America"; as well as receiving an AUDELCO Award nomination for performing in “Love and Marriage and New York City”. Janel is a founding producer of the acclaimed independent production company Backdoor Films and currently serves on the board of directors of Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU), the leading network for developing theater professionals; she earned her B.F.A. in Theatrical Arts from the City University of New York.
