Seattle's Book-It Repertory Theatre Makes a Comeback with a World Premiere
After closing its doors in 2023, Seattle’s beloved Book-It Repertory Theatre is making a surprising return. The theatre, known for bringing literary works to life on stage for over three decades, has been revived by its original founders, Jane Jones and Myra Platt. However, this new chapter comes with a twist — they will no longer operate as a full-scale producing company.
After closing its doors in 2023, Seattle’s beloved Book-It Repertory Theatre is making a surprising return. Book-It Repertory Theatre's landmark 30th season continues with The Turn of the Screw, adapted from the 1898 horror novella by Henry James. Adapted by Rachel Atkins and directed by Carol Roscoe, this production will dive into the darkest corners of James's most famous and haunting story, asking audiences to question who they trust and whose version of events they believe. This will be Book-It's first production under the leadership team of current Artistic Director Jane Jones and Incoming Artistic Director Gus Menary. The Turn of the Screw plays February 12 a?" March 8, 2020 (Opening/Press Night on Saturday, February 15) at The Center Theatre.

Over the next eight months, he will work closely with Co-Founding Artistic Directors Jane Jones and Myra Platt. As Jones remains the artistic leader of the company until August 2020, she will be able to introduce Menary to Book-It and the Seattle community. He will succeed Jones and Platt in the 2020-2021 season.

Dear Readers, when I hear those three potentially terrifying words "one person show" I imagine a self-indulgent ride through self-aggrandizing memories that begin with the cliche "Oh hey, I didn't see you there…". But Gin Hammond's "Returning the Bones" currently playing at the Erickson Theatre from Book-It Repertory Theatre could not be further from that stereotype with an absolutely mesmerizing piece that demands to be seen.

I know going into Book-It Repertory Theatre's current production of Tom Hansen's "American Junkie", I knew nothing of that world except what you might catch on TV. But what this gritty memoir and gripping performances do is give a much more intense and visceral look into this world while still mixing in humor and hope making this a fascinating ride.
