Texas Talent Sweeps National Acting Competition at Amphibian Stage's 1st Annual Acting Competition

Amphibian Stage held an acting competition June 8, 9, and 10th as part of SparkFest 2023, an annual festival of new plays in development, workshops, concerts, and parties. This year, the 14-day event focused on MENASA (Middle Eastern/North African/South Asian) culture, bringing together 68 playwrights, directors, musicians, actors, and other creatives from across the country.

Henry V is the first Shakespeare production, and the second play overall, in Hartford Stage's 55-year history to be staged in the round. In addition to Grush, the ensemble cast - comprised of half men and half women - features Karen Aldridge as Exeter, Miles Anderson as Pistol, Kate Forbes as the Constable of France and Burgundy, Peter Francis James as the Chorus and Sir Thomas Erpingham, Felicity Jones Latta as the Archbishop of Canterbury, Nym and Alice, and Baron Vaughn as Fluellen and Mistress Quickly. Hartford Stage Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Williamson will helm the production, which marks her Shakespeare directorial debut for the Tony Award-winning theatre.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) will celebrate Opening Night of its production of the William Shakespeare classic Romeo n Juliet, directed and adapted by Justin Emeka. The show will bring the colorful characters of Harlem and the African Diaspora to life. Emeka returns for the second year in a row as director. In Romeo n Juliet, soulful music, verse, movement and dance-hall rhythms provide the backdrop for a community suffering from internal conflict. Performances, which are free and open to the public, run from July 5 through 27.

The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park continues its long tradition of introducing new plays to Tristate audiences with its 68th world premiere production, SEVEN SPOTS ON THE SUN, Sept. 28 through Oct. 27. Martin Zimmerman's fable of revenge and redemption is the first of three premieres in the Thompson Shelterhouse schedule this season.
