BWW Review: Award winning JERUSALEM Misses the Mark at Ensemble
If you go to see JERUSALEM, now on stage at Ensemble Theatre, don't expect it to be about people living in the Israeli city of that name, or of the 2013 film of the same name concerning a group of messianic pilgrims abandoning their native Sweden to emigrate to Palestine.
BWW Review: Creative PETER AND THE STARCATCHER at Dobama
Mention author J. M. Barrie, and the immediate thought is Peter Pan. Peter Pan, the tale of a boy who refused to grow up, has become a cottage industry. Dolls, movies, a musical play, coloring books, cartoons, Halloween costumes, a non-musical play, and books are all available. There is even a psychological condition, 'The Peter Pan Syndrome,' which puts the spotlight on men who refuse to assume responsibility for their boyish actions.
BWW Review: Emotionally Draining, Intellectually Satisfying DEATH OF A SALESMAN at Ensemble
Arthur Miller's DEATH OF A SALESMAN, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning drama, now on stage at Ensemble Theatre, is universally recognized as one of, if not the greatest modern American play. Others that are recognized as top classic plays are LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT (Eugene O'Neil), STREET CAR NAMED DESIRE (Tennessee Williams), OUR TOWN (Thornton Wilder), and WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF (Edward Albee).
Ensemble Opens its 2nd TheatreCLE Season With THE MERCY SEAT, 9/11-21
Ensemble Theatre presents THE MERCY SEAT by Neil LaBute, directed by Douglas Farren. Set on September 12, 2001, The Mercy Seat continues Neil LaBute's unflinching fascination with the often-brutal realities of the war between the sexes. In a time of national tragedy, the world changes overnight. A man and a woman explore the choices now available to them in an existence different from the one they had lived just the day before. Can one be opportunistic in a time of universal selflessness?
BWW Reviews: BEYOND THE HORIZON - Seldom Seen Classic at Ensemble
Each year, Ensemble Theatre selects a classic play to be part of their season offerings. Last year it was 'The Iceman Cometh,' which was recognized by the Cleveland Critics Circle for 'Superior Achievement for a Non-Musical Production.' This year's choice is Eugene O'Neill's 1920 Pulitzer Prize winning, 'Beyond the Horizon,' the author's first full-length work.
