Dear Readers, I’m all for a slice of life play showing the inequities in class, race, gender, etc. in the past and spotlighting how far we have not come. Such a play is Pearl Cleage’s “Blues for an Alabama Sky”, currently playing at the Seattle Rep. It’s not a new play; in fact it’s about 30 years old. But it still packs in some resonance. What it fails to pack in completely is much of an arc or ending for its characters.

Firehouse Theatre has announced that it has added Anna Deavere Smith’s groundbreaking FIRES IN THE MIRROR to its SEASON OF DISCOVERY. The solo performance features Jamar Jones and is directed by Katrinah Carol Lewis. FIRES IN THE MIRROR will open on Friday, March 26 and run through Sunday, April 25, 2021.

Love's acclaimed new play Sugar in Our Wounds, opening Friday April 3, 2020, at 8 pm, following two low-priced previews on Wednesday and Thursday, April 1 & 2, at 8 pm. The production, underwritten by Sharon Larkins-Pederson in honor of her husband Edson Pederson's birthday and their 20th wedding anniversary, will run through April 25.
Virginia Repertory Theatre Presents August Wilson's FENCES
