Sharon Isbin to Premiere LeFrak's BAILAMOS with National Symphony on Capitol Lawn in September

Multiple Grammy winner Sharon Isbin will perform the world premiere of Karen LeFrak's Bailamos from her Miami Guitar Concerto with the National Symphony under the direction of Enrico Lopez-Yañez on Sunday Sept 3 at 8pm on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.  This free concert will also include works by Price/Still, Ellington, Brahms, and Strauss among others.

Director of Learning and Participation, Ciaran McConville, returns with a new version of the Brothers' Grimm classic following last year's successful adaptation of Alice in Winterland. Rosie Jones directs a cast of local young actors from the Rose Youth Theatre led by a team of professional actors including Devon Black (Mother/Bear/Townsperson), Vanessa Fisher (Red/Townsperson), Elliot Fitzpatrick (Otto/Kabeljau), J.J. Henry (Gerhardt/Blue) and Georgina White (Circe). The production opens on Friday 14 December, with previews from Thursday 6 December, and runs until Sunday 6 January 2019.

'Suicide, How to Cope When Someone You Love Has Taken Their Own Life': an imperative support book for navigating the grief process and traveling the path back to a fruitful and even happy life. It is the creation of published author, William J. Henry, who has been an educator for over forty years both in the public school sector and in Christian Schools, having been a teacher and school administrator. Henry co-authored a WV State History curriculum, which has been used in Christian Schools in that state for a number of years. He also served for fourteen years as a field representative for Bob Jones University, Greenville SC. Henry often gives education-related seminars, workshops, and graduation addresses. Henry and his wife have been married for forty-eight years and have been blessed with four children and nine grandchildren. They make their home in Parkersburg WV where both are active members in their church.

Smuin Launches 23rd Season With World Premiere

Smuin kicks off its 23rd season with the Bay Area tour of Dance Series 01 showcasing the diverse styles of this contemporary American ballet company. The program features Madness, Rack, and Honey, a world premiere by acclaimed choreographer Garrett Ammon. Also on the program is the West Coast's first look at Stanton Welch's critically praised Indigo, which examines the vagaries of romantic relationships as four couples come together, fall in love, fight, and exchange partners. Rounding out the bill is the timely return of Michael Smuin's Stabat Mater, a powerful response to the events of 9/11. It is presented by Smuin in observance of the 15th anniversary of this most significant event of the new century, with a message of hope in the face of challenges.
