Review: The Atreides Are Us in THE ORESTEIA at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company
There are great depths here, and great wisdom, and Playwright Ellen McLoughlin’s handiwork and that of Chesapeake Shakespeare convey them well. It is good to see a Shakespeare-oriented theater applying its tools and insights to other material from time to time, particularly classical material that is not often produced in these parts.

Taffety Punk's current production of The Tempest demonstrates how Shakespeare's work is infinitely elastic in terms of creativity and casting. Riot Grrrls, a faction of Taffety Punk Theatre Company dedicated to all-female productions of the Bard's works, has come up with a low-tech, low-cost, intimate staging that is as finely tuned as anything you'd pay big bucks for uptown.

It's another fun-filled, romantic summer of classics. This year, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company is producing what may be Shakespeare's most famous play -- Romeo and Juliet. The production will combine a Renaissance world with modern performance poetry to create a unique theatrical experience, directed by CSC's Jenny Leopold. In addition, CSC offers a sparkling version of Jane Austen's witty and beloved romance, Pride and Prejudice, directed by international theatre artist Isabelle Anderson. Tickets are on sale now, and remember, kids 18 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
