Review: MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL 2: CRUISING THROUGH THE CHANGE at AT&T Performing Arts Center
Going to MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL 2: CRUISING THROUGH THE CHANGE at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas, which was presented November 1-3, was like joining a big party bound by women who were embracing the aging process and laughing in the face of every hot flash, mood swing, and memory lapse! Based on the Original Stage Play by Jeanie Linders, with Additional Book and Lyrics by Karen Bishko and Jeanette Hopkins, and Directed by Seth Greenleaf, the show was a celebration of womanhood with humor that felt refreshingly honest, touching on all the highs and lows of 'the change' with a wink and a smile.

The Suzi Bass Awards, Inc. announced winners for the 2013-2014 Atlanta professional theatrical season this evening at the awards ceremony at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts Center. The evening was hosted by Rob Cleveland. Presenters included Deadre Moore, Ingrid Cole and Christy Baggett, Eric and Bethany Mendenhall, Veronika Duerr and Laura Cole, Clifton Guterman and WABE's John Lemley, Tess and Mark Kincaid, and Karen Howell and Chris Ekholm. Guests enjoyed drinks, hors d'oeuvres and mingling with their colleagues and admirers. Guest announcers and former Suzi winners Ingrid Cole and Glenn Rainey revealed Nominees and quipped about the past season.

The latter, the most notable American addition to the list, opens at Marietta's Earl Strand Theatre in a production by the Atlanta Lyric Theatre on Friday. With a book by Terrence McNally, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty, 'Ragtime' opened on Broadway in 1998 and won, amongst others, the Tony Awards for Best Book and Score, and Audra McDonald won her third Tony for playing young-mother, Sarah. The show, set in 1902, combines the joy of a simpler time with the inevitable conflict associated with societal change.
