Just in time for the holidays, LA Opera presents Gioachino Rossini's fairytale romance Cinderella (La Cenerentola) from November 20 through December 12 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. This delightfully entertaining spin on the ultimate rags-to-riches tale finds our spunky heroine (no damsel in distress here) seizing the opportunity to nab the most eligible bachelor in the land and outwit her social-climbing family in the process.
LA Opera Postpones or Cancels Remaining 2020/21 Season Programming
LA Opera announced today that it is postponing, reimagining or canceling all currently scheduled in-person programming for the remainder of the 2020/21 season due to concerns for artist and patron safety regarding COVID-19. Recent news regarding the development of vaccines has reinspired confidence in the company's ability to return to normal production for the 2021/22 season, which will be a combination of rescheduled and new programming.
More Titles Added To Sarasota Opera's 'HD At The Opera House'
Sarasota Opera has announced additional presentations for the 2020 season of “HD at the Opera House.” Richard Strauss's Arabella from the 2014 Salzburg Easter Festival will be shown on Sunday, November 22; Verdi's Macbeth from the Royal Opera House in London will be shown on Sunday, December 6; and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet from the Royal Ballet in London will be shown on Sunday, December 20.

Recently, Los Angeles Opera has had to announce the cancellation of the final performance of Roberto Devereux on the main stage as well as both performances of Angel's Bone, which was to have been presented in partnership with Beth Morrison Projects at the Broad Stage. At present, the governor's closure order for Los Angeles remains in place through April 19, and the opera has not yet canceled additional performances. Noting that they are vigilantly watching for updates that would affect the remaining May and June performances, the company is still holding out hope. The priority is, of course, the safety of patrons and company members, so they're taking it one day at a time.
LA Opera Announces 2020/21 Season
LA Opera President and CEO Christopher Koelsch today announced the company's 35th season, which will include six mainstage productions a?" one of them a company premiere and five productions new to Los Angeles a?" and two concerts presented at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, with additional performances presented in other venues through the company's Off Grand and Connects initiatives.

On Saturday evening, November 16, 2019, Los Angeles Opera presented Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Emanuel Schickaneder's 1791 singspiel, The Magic Flute. The unusual production, which involved the appearance of screens reminiscent of 1920s silent films, was originally devised by Barry Kosky, Suzanne Andrade, and Paul Barritt for Berlin's Komische Oper.
