Greenhouse Theater Center To Host THE KEY: YOUNG CRITICS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Greenhouse Theater Center's Artistic Director Jacob Harvey is pleased to announce The Key: Young Critics Mentorship Program, a training program for Chicago youth in arts criticism created by national online arts platform Rescripted, The Chicago Inclusion Project and entertainment critic Oliver Sava and hosted by the Greenhouse. Launching this fall, the ten-week initiative for youth ages 16 - 20 will include arts criticism workshops and lectures with the program's creators, as well as guest speakers from all facets of the Chicago theater community. Students will attend Chicago theater productions throughout the fall season, write original critiques, undergo one-on-one editing sessions and create personal blogs to host their writing portfolio and multimedia reviews. Select critiques will also be published on Rescripted.

Fittingly, as most of the world celebrates Gay Pride month, the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills is presenting an absorbing, beautifully-poetic production of playwright Alexi Kaye Campbell's drama THE PRIDE, which continues its Los Angeles-area premiere through July 9, 2017. Highly-stylized yet riveting and universally approachable, this new production of the play that originated in the UK features a superb cast smartly directed by the Wallis' Artist-in-Residence Michael Arden.

Don Quixote is mad... mad enough to dream an impossible dream while tilting after windmills with his trusty sidekick, Sancho Panza. Quixote's romantic quest is as crazy as he is. But is his impossible dream madness or vision? The trial is about to begin. Man of La Mancha provides a glimpse into the Spanish literature that inspired Picasso, before Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris opens at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) in October. Inspired by Spanish writers including Cervantes, Picasso wove characters such as Don Quixote-a revolutionary like himself-into some of his art. Man of La Mancha, directed by producing artistic director Scott Nolte with musical direction by Edd Key, opens on July 9 and runs through August 7, with low-price previews on July 7 and 8, plus a pay-what-you-can performance on July 14.
