Goodspeed Musicals will welcome A Christmas Story The Musical as its final production of the 2024 season. A hilariously heartfelt holiday musical for the whole family, A Christmas Story will run at The Goodspeed from Nov. 1 – Dec. 29 in East Haddam, Conn.

New Musical THE GOOSE GIRL Will Receive Industry Reading, Directed by Denis Jones

Two-Time Tony Nominee Director Denis Jones will present a reading of the new musical The Goose Girl based on Shannon Hale's 2003 novel of the same name on Friday, September 13th at Theater 315 (315 West 47th Street).  

ROCK OF AGES Kicks Off 75th Anniversary Season at The Gateway

Now in an epic and astonishingly beautiful new co-production created by MSMT with the Fulton Theatre, this masterpiece comes to life with a sensational cast in a dazzling visual production that focuses on the profoundly touching humanity of the saga – of the lives lived and lost, the lessons learned and remembered.

For a state as remote as we are, we boast two prestigious regional theatres now in their second half centuries a?" Maine State Music Theatre and Ogunquit Playhouse a?" which are leaders on the national regional scene and which have become destinations for travellers from far flung places. Add to these an array of countless other companies of every size and philosophic bent, and you have a colorful, rich artistic arena that grows more interesting each year. I am privileged to get to sample these performances as Broadway World's Maine editor and to be able to compare many of them favorably with shows I see across the country, in New York and London. These are my personal choices of the best in Maine for 2019, grouped by theatre company and show.
