Ian trained at the National Theatre of Wales and Birmingham University.
Theatre: winner of the first Royal National Theatre/Ian Charleson Award for title role in TORQUATO TASSO at the Lyric Hammersmith.
For the Royal Shakespeare Company: TWELFTH NIGHT, ROMEO AND JULIET, HENRY IV parts one and two, OEDIPUS THE KING, OEDIPUS AT COLONUS, ANTIGONE, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM (world tour), HAMLET, KING LEAR, ELGAR'S RONDO, THE VENETIAN TWINS, THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, THE WINTER’S TALE, THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, THE RIVALS, MERRY WIVES: THE MUSICAL, TROILUS AND CRESSIDA. Ian has an MA in Shakespeare and Theatre, is an Education Associate Practitioner for the RSC, and teaches regularly at universities and drama schools overseas and in the UK. He was Head of Acting at St Mary’s University College, London, for two years.
