CORKSCREW THEATER FESTIVAL Returns For Second Season This Summer

Following a well-attended and critically-acclaimed inaugural year, Corkscrew Theater Festival returns for a second annual season, running July 9 - August 5 at the Paradise Factory (64 East 4th Street, Manhattan). This summer theater festival provides early-career artists with a high level of production support and features five world premieres and four readings performed in repertory over four weeks. Special attention has been given to theater makers who are developing work through robust and innovative collaborative models.
TRANS VOICES CABARET Returns to The Duplex

After their sold out performance in February, Trans Voices Cabaret returns to The Duplex with an even bigger cast of transgender and non-binary performers on Saturday, April 5th, 2018 at 9:30pm with direction by Donnie Cianciotto and musical direction by special guest Anessa Marie.

Writers Announced For 2018 Johnny Mercer Writers Colony At Goodspeed

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 36 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2018 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 18 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.
Broadening Theatrics to Present Non-Traditional A CHORUS LINE at TADA!

Broadening Theatrics, in association with Open Bar Theatricals (openbartheatricals.org), will present a unique production of A Chorus Line in which dancers have been cast regardless of race, gender, body type, age, or gender identity. Presented by arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc., this rare production, directed and choreographed by Rachel Broadwell, will run March 31st, April 1st, and April 2nd at 8pm at TADA! Theatre (15 W 28th St.).
Girl Be Heard presents BLURRED LINES

The award-winning ensemble Girl Be Heard (girlbeheard.org), a nonprofit theatre company that amplifies the stories of young women, is pleased to present the World Premiere of BLURRED LINES, a revolutionary new show about the normalization of rape culture in contemporary society at HERE (145 6th Ave, one block south of Spring St, enter on Dominick St) February 9-19. Ticket information is available at here.org or by calling 212-352-3101. Running time is 60 minutes with no intermission, plus a 20-minute post-show talkback. This production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE: a curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.

Dixon Place to Present Pinocchio Themed PIN AND THE BLUE FAIRY

PIN* AND THE BLUE FAIRY is a new play in development with OUTLIERS Theatre Co, based on Collodi's classic The Adventures of Pinocchio. The play examines the wooden puppet's journey to become a proper boy through the eyes of a contemporary trans teenager named Blue. As Blue attempts to find their own path, they turn to Pin's tale, and their stories intertwine in a search for understanding, transformation, and personal truth.

2016 Recipients Announced for New York Innovative Theatre Awards

On Monday, September 26, 2016, The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation, the organization who for the past 12 years has been dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, announced the 2016 recipients at its annual awards ceremony, The IT Awards. Hosted by a crowd favorite, Jason Kravits and directed by award winning director and sound designer, DeLisa White the ceremony took place from 7pm to 10pm at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College.

In its time this city has seen countless stories of love and betrayal, but none quite like this one.  The tangled knot of four young lovers threatens to unravel the difficult preparations of a royal wedding.  Elsewhere, a band of would-be actors plan to create the greatest show the world has ever seen.  They all descend into the forest, but little do they know that it won't be only filled with mortal beings this night: the faerie king and queen have their own disputes to resolve!
