The Playground Theatre has announced its early Summer season with three very different shows, traveling from ancient Greece, to 1940s America, to 1980s Paris. The season opens with Fragments, which pieces together a long-lost Euripides play from pieces of papyrus, followed by The Respectable Prostitute, where powerful people spread false truths for their personal ambition and closes with Blue Electric directed by Hugh Hudson, who directed the 1981 film Chariots of Fire.

The Canadian Donald Sutherland will be honoured with a Donostia Award recognising his more than fifty years of excellent performances. The actor, who has participated in almost 200 productions, will attend the 67th edition of the San Sebastian Festival on Thursday 26 September to receive the accolade prior to the screening in the Kursaal of The Burnt Orange Heresy, a thriller directed by Giuseppe Capotondi. The film, with a cast featuring Mick Jagger, Claes Bang and Elizabeth Debicki will close the coming edition of the Venice Festival.

In preparation for his performance in a new production of The Importance of Being Earnest, Nigel Havers gave a complete rendition of the script reading from a specially printed first edition. An audience assembled in room 118 of The Cadogan Hotel, where Oscar Wilde was infamously arrested on the grounds of gross indecency in 1895, to hear Havers' touching and emotional performance. Mary McCartney was present to photograph the event and following the reading the audience retired to the dining room at The Cadogan Hotel for cucumber sandwiches.

Last night (17 March 20134) the six-time Olivier award nominated musical Once celebrated its first birthday in the West End, joining forces with the charity Oxfam specifically fundraising for their Mother Appeal. Also celebrating St Patrick's Day, the production welcomed their new cast led by Arthur Darvill, who joins the London production having played the role on Broadway. Much to the excitement of music fans worldwide, the new feature length documentary on Greek music legend Vangelis titled 'Vangelis And The Journey To Ithaka' will be released on September 23, 2013 by Gonzo MultiMedia UK. The two-hour documentary includes interviews with Vangelis and many of his friends and colleagues, including Sean Connery, Hugh Hudson, Jessye Norman, Oliver Stone, Akiko Ebi, Julian Rachlin and many others. It also includes rare, historical footage, most of which has never been seen before. Another highlight includes recent footage of Vangelis improvising new music!
